On Tuesday, Year 6 discussed the differences between Realism and Abstract art and stated their preference.
They were then asked which type of art was the hardest to achieve – the children gave some great defences for both fields based on skill-level, effort, amount of thought, difficulty of representing a concept etc. We also talked about how art can be subjective and ultimately down to taste.
We then looked at the techniques used by the abstract artist, Frank Bowling, and created our own pieces using similar methods – circles and arcs, paint pouring, found objects and shaving chalk.
One of our class members was off during this lesson so she was given the job of judging first and second place. Would you agree with her choices?
