Audlem Curriculum Map

At Audlem St. James, we follow the New Primary National Curriculum. Our curriculum map covers the content for each subject.

We plan using a skills based approach so that children learn about the world around them in context and are able to be fully immersed in what they are learning.

Some subjects such as Science are frequently taught as distinct units of work to ensure key skills are covered in depth.

English and Maths skills are regularly incorporated into many areas of the curriculum. In both of these areas we follow the New National Curriculum.

Religious Education (RE) is taught across the school with children learning about the Christian faith with the introduction of one other major world religion i.e. Judaism -- at Key Stage 1 and then the study of Hinduism and Islam at Key Stage 2. Parents have a right by law to withdraw their children from the Religious Education curriculum.

Our curriculum is rich and varied. We regularly build in WOW moments to ignite our children's imaginations and to inspire them in their work.

We encourage children in our school to be independent, confident, resilient and responsible so that they can achieve their full potential.

Reading is taught through phonics using Read Write Inc approaches. Children are grouped by ability and taught for 20 minutes daily.

We do not use one reading scheme -- we use several and organise the books into levels / book bands of similar difficulty. Each band is represented by a colour and children are regularly assessed to ensure that they progress to the next band as appropriate.

The timetable for each class is flexible apart from periods when shared facilities, such as the hall, are used.

Please click on the pdfs beneath the photographs to view our curriculum in more detail. We have recently added "subject-to-a-page" pdfs for every area of the curriculum.
