Y4 Learning about Victorian jobs

practising the skills of being a 39piecer39

Year 4 have been learning about the Industrial Revolution as part of their History topic. We have been looking at some of the jobs which children did in the cotton mills. Here we are trying to 'piece' the cotton together so that they can be spun into thread. This job was done by children and they had to rub the cotton pieces together with their hands until they were bound together. This could sometimes make their hands sore and bleeding – it was a very hard job.
