Artists at Work!

Our art focus for autumn 1 has revolved around the use of composition within paintings. The children have loved learning about artists throughout history and have created some fantastic studies over a 2 page spread. This unit allowed us to research about an artist from over 300 years ago named Clara Peeters and her unique method of hiding self portraits within her compositions as women were not allowed to create portraits during this time! We then compared this to a more modern artist – Audrey Flack who incorporates portraits within her compositions boldly showing a key contrast between the time periods!
