Our Topic

History
In History we will be comparing schools past and present. What is our school like? What was it like when my parents and grandparents went to school? We think about changes within living memory How has life changed? We will use words and phrases such as; a long time ago, recently, when my parents/carers were children to describe the passing of time. Then we will travel back in time and experience life as Victorian children during our visit to a Victorian Schoolroom. We will be asking questions such as: What was a Victorian classroom like? What subjects did the children learn?

Geography
In Geography, we will use maps to plan a route around Audlem, noting key landmarks such as the Old Grammar School and we will consider how Audlem has changed over time using Tithe maps. We will create our own simple maps and we will sort the physical and human features of a place.

Science
In Science we will learn about the four seasons and their associated weather. Reflecting on our experiences we will explore how seasonal change affects trees, weather patterns and daylight hours. We will learn about living things including humans, and describe their characteristics.

English
Throughout the term we will look at stories related to Schools. We will write an adventure story using the structure of 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. 'Nibbles the Book Monster' by Emma Yarlett will be used to write recounts and diaries. We will compose sentences orally before writing, leave spaces between words, punctuate sentences using a capital letter and a full stop, use capital letters for names of people, join clauses using 'and'. We will be given common Year 1 words to learn to read and spell.

Maths
Throughout the term we will be concentrating on number looking at place value (within 10), addition and subtraction (within 10). We will deepen our learning through problem solving activities and use our reasoning skills to explain. We will learn to name shapes and describe simple properties.

Art
In Art we will explore mark making and line; working and experimenting with different materials to explore texture. We will then explore colour mixing through paint play, using a range of tools to paint on different surfaces.

Music
In Music, we will compose a piece of music based on a fairy tale and notate using a story board. We will learn a range of Christmas songs and accompany with a pulse onpercussion instruments.

Design and Technology
In Design and Technology, we will create puppets. We will explore methods of joining fabrics together. We will design and make a character-based hand puppet using a preferred joining techniques before adding detail.

Religious Education
In R.E. we will be thinking about how people describe God. We will ask 'What do Christians believe about God?' We will also look at the Bible to learn more about creation stories. Then we will learn about how and why Christians celebrate Christmas.

Wellbeing
The children's wellbeing is our priority. We will also be developing our wellbeing toolkit and promoting self-regulation using The Zones of Regulation.

Physical Education
This term our PE days will be on Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure you send your child into school in PE kit on these days. Your kit should consist of a school PE top, school jumper, a pair of shorts/jogging bottoms/leggings and appropriate trainers..
