Writing
This term, we will be reading 'The Lost Happy Endings' by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray, we will also be reading 'Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone' by JK Rowling. We will be using both texts as a stimulus for our writing in class.
Reading
In Guided Reading, we will be reading 'Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls' by Eleni Favilli and Francesca Cavallo, and 'Hansel and Gretel' by Neil Gaiman and Lorenzo Mattotti.
Maths
Our focus in the Autumn term will be on Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division and Fractions. During these units, we will also continue to "Flashback" to previous areas; consolidating our knowledge of multiplication, division, addition and subtraction, and how to approach multistep worded and reasoning problems.
History and Geography
Our History and Geograhy topic this term is World War 1. Within this we will be learning about how war began, which countries were involved, and where famous battles took place. We will be using our history and geography skills throughout this topic to develop a deep understanding of WW1.
Science
Throughout this term's Science, we will be looking at Properties of Materials. We will be learning about the different properties of materials though scientific investigation. As a class we will be completing comparative tests, planning science experiments, explaining how changes can happen to a variety of materials and explaining how we can learn from the experiments we have constructed.
RE
In our RE lessons we will be answering these questions:

and
How
do people use sources of authority to determine beliefs?

Painting
and Mixed Media – portraits
We will be investigating self-portraits by a range of artists, children use photographs of themselves as a starting point
for developing their own unique self-portraits in mixed-media.

Craft and
Design – Architecture
We will be investigating buildings through drawing and printmaking, learning about the work
of architect Zaha Hadid and creating their own building designs, creatively
presenting research on artist Hundertwasser and exploring ideas behind the
symbolism of monument design.

Electrical systems:
Doodlers
Our
Doodlers unit explores series circuits further and introduces motors. Explore
how the design cycle can be approached at a different starting point, by
investigating an existing product, which uses a motor, to encourage pupils to
problem-solve and work out how the product has been constructed, ready to
develop their own.
Textiles: Stuffed toys
We will be designing a stuffed toy and
make decisions on materials, decorations and attachments (appendages), after
learning how to sew a blanket stitch.
Computing
In Computing, the children will be able to explain what a word processing tool is for, be able to add and edit images to a document, know how to use word wrap with images and text and change the text within a document. They will then design and write a letter using a template found on Word.
PE
PE will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Please send your child in school PE kit on those days.
