Build Africa
As a school we felt that we could help others around the world as well as our own community. This meant we looked at many different projects and decided to link with a charity called Build Africa as they believe 'in the power of education to help end poverty'.
Since 2004, the Build a School Programme has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of children across rural Africa. This has evolved to help build entire groups of schools, giving more children the support and opportunities they deserve. We felt that we would like to be a part of this so School Parliament and Global Ambassadors decided to launch our project this week through a whole school assembly.
The children talked through a powerpoint which gave an insight into what Build Africa entails and how we can help. They also talked about our link school in Kenya called Morop Primary schoolwhich has approximately 229 children enrolled. We hope that we will help improve the education of the children and teachers that work there by:
- Building more classrooms and improve existing ones
- Build new latrines, handwashing stations, and boreholes
- Provide more learning materials such as desks and textbooks
- Provide hygiene and sanitation training for children
- Set up Buddy Clubs to help younger students settle in to school
- Set up Teacher Learning Circles to support teachers through training and mentorship
- Set up Parents Clubs to support parents and encourage them to take an interest in their child's education
Through School Parliament and Global Ambassadors will be sending letters and information about our school to Morop during this academic year as we work with them to find out more about going to school in Kenya.
This can only be done through us working together and raising awareness of the issues within Kenya as well as fundraising. As a school we aim to raise £1000over the next academic year through a variety of fun events which the children have decided on. We hope that you support us in this challenge.
