Shrove Tuesday

Sapphire have been learning about Shrove Tuesday and how Christians celebrate this as the last day before Lent. They have also learnt that the other name for this day is Pancake Day and that this comes from the old English custom of using up all the fattening ingredients in the house before Lent. The fattening ingredients that most people had in their houses in those days were eggs and milk. These were combined with flour to make pancakes! We had lots of fun choosing our toppings and decorating our pancakes before eating them all up.
