Year 6 have recently enjoyed their annual trip to Newcastle-under-Lyme College to take part in some Science workshops linked to 'Our Bodies'. First, we learned some Biology by finding out about how the heart pumps oxygen around the body. We had to time each other doing some exercises and used stopwatches to measure our heart rates. Next, we learned some Chemistry by detecting the presence of carbon dioxide using a range of chemicals such as hydrochloric acid and sodium carbonate. Lastly, we learned some Physics by observing water vapour turn to liquid inside a balloon dipped in liquid nitrogen. We even used liquid nitrogen to freeze some marshmallows and ate them afterwards — very crunchy! A big thank you to the college for fully funding this trip for KS2 for the third year running.
