On the 26th September, Diamond class experienced an 'evacuee' day at the Churnet Valley Railway. All the children and adults dressed in 1940s style which made them feel like real evacuees. The children enjoyed talks from real veterans including George, who was an evacuee, and Fred, who showed the class all of his medals for bravery. The activities included tasting war-time cooking, using a ration book in the shop and learning the silhouettes of war-time planes just like a member of the Royal Observer Corps. The children thought that the best part was when they went into the long tunnel on the steam train and experienced a total 'blackout'. It was a bit scary but everyone wanted to do it again!
