Baptism and Belonging

Reverend Helen visited Sapphire and Pearl classes as part of their work on Baptism and Belonging. The children have talked about the groups that they belong to e.g. family, school, beavers and sports clubs. They recognise that a christening can be a way of welcoming a child into the Christian Faith. The children learned that parents and godparents make promises, about how they will act and, on behalf of the child. They promise to raise the child to know God through listening to stories about Jesus and through prayer.
Reverend Helen talked about baptism; the preparations, the service and the celebrations. The children are planning their own role play Christening to be held at St James' Church.
